Pocket knife from France Auvergne - Aurillac Horn Carbon steel
Traditional pocket knife: Auvergne - Aurillac Horn CarbonThe Aurillac is named after the capital of the Cantal department in the Auvergne-Rhone-Alpes region. It was developed in the 19th century by the blacksmith Vigiers for the needs of farmers and ranchers in this wild volcanic mountain region. At that time it was customary for the manufacturer to name his products according to the region in which they were sold.
The proven blade of the type "Bourbonnais" has - as usual with this blade form - a bulbous, central point, which points forward. With rivets, the curved shells are attached to the boards. A slight curvature on the underside, due to the blade type, makes the handle very handy and blends smoothly with the palm of the hand. This version of the classic has a polished bark horn handle. The stainless steel jaws form the end of the handle to the blade side and keep the blade made of carbon steel stable.
Blades made of this traditional material are significantly cut-resistant and sharper than stainless steel but not stainless. They must be cared for carefully with good blade oil.
